Principles from Isaiah

The Message

Our understanding of God begins when we come to know the God of Isaiah.

The Man

An understanding of myself comes from a healthy walk with God… which means to see myself from a biblical perspective.

The Moment

Our understanding of the times will come from living each moment with a biblical perspective.

We must begin with God… when we do we will have a right view of people and circumstances…

When we begin with people and circumstances we will have a wrong view of God…

Isaiah 1

Sin is turning your back on God to live like you want…

It is perfectly reasonable to turn away from sin and turn to God…

When God turns his hand against his children it is not disaster it is redemption…

Isaiah 2-4

Believers can anticipate hope now and in the future.

Humility that transforms happens when we reject self-confidence and live for the glory of God alone.

Anticipation of the future has transforming power for today.

Isaiah 5

God has a right to expect fruitfulness from His people since we have all the resources we need.

God’s people must maintain a biblical worldview to have the correct perspective about life.

Believers rooted in Christ will find they can be fruitful in the midst of darkness and distress.

Isaiah 6

Jesus does not compare to anyone or anything in His creation.

God’s way of cleansing is nothing like your way or my way.

God’s message is nothing like the message you and I would give.

Isaiah 7:1-8:18

People of faith look to God’s Word and His character in times of crisis.

People with fear look to themselves in times of crisis.

The way to experience the saving presence of God in your crisis is to ally with Jesus.

The object of your faith is Immanuel, God with Us.

If you belong to God, then you are set apart from others by your awe of God.

Living by faith in God is a moment by moment experience of God.

Isaiah 8:19-10:4

Darkness is not the remedy for darkness.

Light is the remedy for darkness. The Light of the World is Jesus.

Darkness earns God’s Wrath, but Light is a gift of God’s Grace.

Isaiah 10:5-34

God sometimes uses all things to discipline His children.

The purpose of God’s discipline is restoration and righteousness for His people.

No individual or nation can stand against the Lord Almighty.

Isaiah 11-12

When Christ rules your heart and mind with righteousness … your words and your gifts will be used to fill the earth with the knowledge of the Lord…

When Christ rules your heart and mind with righteousness …there will be true unity among believers…

When Christ rules your heart and mind with righteousness…. Your life will be a song of thanksgiving and proclamation of His Name…

What can I do in my culture to show my joy in Christ?

Isaiah 13-14

Judgments against nations take place in time, but judgment against individuals is an eternal matter.

God opposes to the proud.

God’s purposes are always a place of refuge for His people.

Isaiah 15-23

God will humble all human systems.

What ideas are you trusting that have been set up with human systems?????

No nation or individual is beyond the sovereign grace of God.

What area of your life do you need to turn over to the Lord for His healing?????

God graciously removes false hope to make way for victory.

What is God doing in your life to remove the false hopes you have? How have you responded?

Isaiah 24

No sinner can escape God’s judgment.

Praise is the proper response of those rescued by God’s grace.

Heavenly and earthly powers are no match for the Lord Almighty.

Isaiah 25-27

When God saves you, He saves you completely!

Peace of mind is a product of what you allow to occupy your mind.

A mind made new in Christ must exercise its power to perceive, grasp, and hold the truth.

Isaiah 28-33

God’s correction renews our faith in His generous provision and total sufficiency.

God’s correction draws us back to Him, our only sure foundation.

God Himself is our only reliable alliance.

Isaiah 34-35

You can choose NOT to live by faith in God, but you CANNOT choose to evade the consequences.

The world’s emptiness CANNOT satisfy your emptiness.  You CHOOSE to satisfy your emptiness in Christ Alone.

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
‘Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt of life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
’til He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

Who is God?

God reveals Himself to all men through His Creation.

What does it mean to be human?

God reveals Himself to all men to give them purpose and potential.

Why did God create?

God reveals Himself to all men to save them.

Isaiah 46-48

God is patient and His purposes are not frustrated by the rebellion of His people.

Jesus brings light into the darkness of the entire cosmos.

Jesus is the embodiment of God’s pledge of grace to restore our life.

Jesus has stepped into history with a mighty salvation.

What are you waiting for?

Isaiah 50:1-52:12

The Lord strengthens His obedient people through suffering.

Suffering in the present will be rewarded with glory in eternity.

The Lord goes before and behind His people to lead them to the joy of their salvation.

Jesus Christ carried all the grief and sorrow caused by sin.

Jesus Christ took your sin and cleansed you from its guilt.

God’s promise to you is not just survival but blessing and security.

“For your Maker is your husband-the Lord Almighty is His name- the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; He is called the God of all the earth.”(Isaiah 54:5)

“All your sons (and daughters) will be taught by the Lord, and great will be your children’s peace.  In righteousness you will be established…”(Isaiah 54:13-14a)

Will you let God make a song out of your life?

God promises a transformed life to those who love His Name.

“But He was pierced for mica’s transgressions, He was crushed for my iniquities; the punishment that brought mica peace was upon Him, and by His wounds she has been healed.”(Isaiah 53:5)

Will you come?????

A heart and spirit revived by the high and lofty One experiences real Christianity.

“For this is what the high and lofty One says- He who lives forever, whose name is holy: ‘I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.'”(Isaiah 57:16)

What would God accomplish in you and through you if you desired a surrendered life?????

Isaiah 58-59

True worship leads to humility before God and ministry to others.

True Christians see their sin as destructive and accept responsibility for it through confession and repentance.

True Christians cooperate with the Word of God and the Spirit of God as they grow and serve others.

Isaiah 60

God’s people reflect God’s light.

The glory of the Lord radiates from those who look at Him.

The Lord’s transformed people are for the everlasting display of His splendor.

Isaiah 61-64

Real Christians are passionately seeking a transformed culture for the generations.

Real Christians passionately pursuing a relationship with Christ, while experiencing a transformation.

Real Christians passionately praying for God to intervene in our life and in our culture.

How can I pray?

How has God carried you through a recent struggle?

Write it out… thanking Him for being able to see His hand at work in your life.

“I will tell of the kindnesses of the Lord, the deeds for which He is to be praised, according to all the Lord has done for us…” (Isaiah 63:7)

After you have worshiped, then let Him know that you fall short of His ideal for you life… confess your shortcomings…. write them out!

“All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.”(Isaiah 64:6)

Tell God you long for His touch… write out your thoughts…

“Yet, O Lord, you are our Father.  We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.  Do not be angry beyond measure, O LORD; do not remember our sins forever.  Oh, look upon us, we pray, for we are all your people.”(Isaiah 64:8-9)

Then think about…

What awesome thing do you need God to do for you today?

Write it out… Use what you know about God’s purposes and plans for your life as a basis for your prayer…

Then pray for our culture…

What awesome thing do you need God to do for our culture today?

“For when you did awesome things that we did not expect, you came down, and the mountains trembled before you. Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceive, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him.” (Isaiah 64:3-4)

Isaiah 65-66

If God’s purpose for history is to bring all things under the Lordship of Christ into a new world, then God has a purpose and a plan for your life.

If God’s purpose for history is to bring all things under the Lordship of Christ into a new world, then we will be eagerly anticipating our future.

If God’s purpose for history is to bring all things under the Lordship of Christ into a new world, then God’s message of judgment and grace must still be proclaimed.

And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment—to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.” (Ephesians 1:9-10)

How will you live in light of your understanding of who God is… who you are…. And how you understand the world you live in?

…When we begin with God…we will understand Him…understand ourselves… and understand the times we live in…
